Introduction to DevOps

DevOps is a set of practices that combines software development (Dev) and IT operations (Ops).

Why DevOps?

It aims to shorten the systems development life cycle and provide continuous delivery with high software quality. DevOps is complementary with Agile software development; several DevOps aspects came from the Agile methodology.

Key Concepts

1. Continuous Integration (CI): Developers frequently merge code changes into a central repository where automated builds and tests are run.
2. Continuous Delivery (CD): Code changes are automatically built, tested, and prepared for a release to production.
3. Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Managing and provisioning computing infrastructure through machine-readable definition files, rather than physical hardware configuration or interactive configuration tools.

Tools of the Trade

• Docker & Kubernetes for containerization and orchestration.
• GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab CI for CI/CD pipelines.
• Terraform or Ansible for Infrastructure as Code.
